Scholarships

Through the generosity of members and friends of SPC, we have several scholarships available to assist with college expenses.

There are 4 scholarships:

• Jerry W. Barnett Memorial Scholarship—This scholarship is to be awarded annually to

  any deserving student or students.  The applicant’s Christian experience and leadership,

  scholastic record, aims and goals, financial need and personal contribution toward college expenses will all be taken into consideration. 

• John T. Bowman Living Award—Scholarship consideration is given to any young person working to achieve educational or vocational goals.  Selection criteria includes academic achievement, moral and religious attitude, financial need, general leadership ability, and participation in the programs of Salem Presbyterian Church.

• Harvey Bredlow Scholarship—This scholarship is for anyone working to achieve educational or vocational goals.  Selection criteria includes academic achievement, moral and religious attitude, financial need, general leadership and participation in the programs of Salem Presbyterian Church. 

• Iris Peterson Scholarship—This scholarship is awarded for college scholarships.  There are no special criteria.

Scholarships are not limited to college freshman, so returning students and graduate students are also encouraged to apply. Applications can be found in the church office and online at salempres.org, or requested in electronic form from Janet (janet.chisom@salempres.org).

Applications should be fully completed and returned to the church by April 23, 2023.
