Salem Presbyterian Church
Anne Steele, Organist of Salem Presbyterian Church, will present an organ concert of sacred music on Sunday, October 3, at 4:00 PM in the sanctuary. The works to be performed have been chosen to display the full depth and range of sound of SPC’s organ, which was built by the Hagerstown Organ Company in 2000 and was enhanced digitally this year to complete the original console’s capacity.
In addition to Anne’s solo performance, Ronn Lowe, Organist of Cave Spring United Methodist Church, will be a guest soloist and will join Anne in three organ duets.Ronn, a Roanoke College graduate in music, has served as organist of several area churches and as guest organist in many venues, including Bruton Parish Episcopal Church in Williamsburg.
Anne, who earned a degree in mathematics from Longwood University, was privately trained in organ and piano music by a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory. She has served as organist of various churches in Virginia and Georgia. Please support Anne by coming to enjoy this auditory treat presented to the glory of God!
Communion and the Salem Food Pantry
Each time we partake of the bread and cup in the Lord’s Supper we receive spiritual nourishment. In gratitude for this “soul food,” the Outreach Committee requests that you bring food for the hungry to church.
Each Communion Sunday, there will be baskets at the front and rear doors of the sanctuary for canned goods for the Salem Food Pantry.
The Communion Dates for the rest of this year are:
August 29
October 3
October 31
November 21
December 19
(January 9)
Recycle Sunday
Recycle Sunday! There will be four large trash cans at the church on the last Sunday of each month to collect recyclables: plastics (#1 and #2), newspapers, soda cans and bi-metal cans. We will take them to the recycling center that day. You can assist in several ways: bring in your recycling and contact Ellen Breedlove (389-8998) if you'd like to be a part of the recycling team. Together we can make a difference in beautifying God's world!
